Protection

"Life Assurance salesmen always try to argue that I shall someday die - which is not so"
Stephen Leacock (1869-1944)

Nobody's Immortal
It's a hard fact, but around 1 in 6 men and 1 in 10 women aged 30 are likely to die before reaching the age of 65. State benefits are basic, and some of them are only available to widows, not widowers or unmarried partners.

Will your current life assurance provision:

  • Repay your mortgage
  • Repay all your loans & credit cards
  • Allow your partner to employ someone to look after your children while they work
  • Allow your partner to stay at home and care for your children
  • Keep your business running
  • Keep your staff in employment
  • Allow your family to be financially fit for their future

Life assurance protection can't bring people back. But, it can make life that little bit more manageable for those who survive you.

Income Protection
Most of us would prefer to believe that the chances of suffering from a serious illness or accident prior to retirement are negligible. Figures from Department of Social Security show that there are currently over 1 million people in the UK who have been off work through sickness for at least 6 months. In fact half of them have been off work for more than 3 years and many will never work again.

  • Each year, for every person that dies prematurely, 15 more will be suffering from a long-term sickness or disability. What if you became one of these statistics?

The financial effects could be severe for you and your family. And, if you're on your own, how would you manage with nobody to lean on for practical and financial support? Income Protection is designed to pay you a regular income when you are unable to work as the result of an accident or long term sickness. This benefit is tax-free, under current legislation, and will usually continue to be paid until you are able to return to work or the policy expires.

Critical Illness Protection

  • Every 40 seconds someone in the UK will be struck down with a critical illness.
  • 1 in 3 people will contract cancer at sometime in their lives.

A relatively new form of protection known as Critical Illness cover provides financial assistance for those who survive a serious illness. If you take out Critical Illness cover you will receive a lump sum payment on diagnosis of a specified critical illness, which would allow you to concentrate on getting well again. It is available as a stand alone plan or may be added to some life assurance plans.

Some of the specified critical illnesses:

Blindness, Cancer, Heart Attack, Stroke, Paralysis, Loss of Speech, Loss of Hearing, Loss of Limbs, Multiple Sclerosis, Kidney Failure, Heart Surgery, CJD, Alzheimer's Disease, Motor Neurone Disease, Parkinson's Disease, Severe Burns and Total & Permanent Disability.

Your Next Step
What ever your situation, we would recommend regular reviews of all your existing protection arrangements, ensuring that yours and your family's financial needs are able to be met both now and in the future.
